If you’re looking into ICHRA administration in 2024, you’re probably considering offering an ICHRA to your employees (great choice, by the way). The individual coverage health reimbursement arrangement (ICHRA) gives employers the ability to design and customize a plan that’s tailor-made for their organization. The right ICHRA administration platform will save you time, energy, and headaches.
The many rules surrounding ICHRA and other HRAs can change year over year. Most of these rules are in place to prevent discrimination. If keeping up with changing regulations sounds overwhelming, take heart! A good ICHRA administration tool should have built-in, automatic updates to ensure compliance.
Let’s check out what to look for when it comes to ICHRA administration.
Since ICHRA administration is relatively new and touches critical parts of your business and your employees’ lives, it’s essential to work with an established ICHRA plan administrator with a proven track record. Take Command was the first ICHRA solution on the market and is the largest administrator for individual coverage HRAs, making us a proven partner for your ICHRA systems.
Change is inherent to adopting an ICHRA for your business. There will be questions and you’ll want quick answers and support when you need it. Take Command’s award-winning customer service team is ready to help you succeed.
ICHRA plan administrators should offer unprecedented choice for employees, including off-exchange plans and on-exchange plans through Healthcare.gov or state exchanges. Take Command has relationships with all major carriers and state exchanges to ensure the best offerings to suit your workforce.
A critical piece to ICHRA administration is helping employees enroll in individual health insurance, especially since many employees haven’t ever had the opportunity to make those types of decisions. Take Command is the only ICHRA administration software that also has a hands-on enrollment team of licensed health insurance experts ready to help your team enroll.
The reimbursement process should be simple, easy and intuitive for employers and their employees. ICHRA administration software should make this process seamless and streamlined, generating reimbursement reports and delivering a transparent reimbursement claims process. Take Command’s hands-off reimbursement process checks all the boxes.
The complexities around ICHRA compliance are best left to an expert, at the very least for the sake of time and HIPAA. ICHRA software should handle compliance surrounding plan design, ICHRA affordability, checking claims against HRA expense eligibility, as well as ensuring employees are enrolled in compliant plans.
ICHRA reporting is an integral part of ensuring a company is compliant, whether it’s figuring out which forms you need to submit if you’re an Applicable Large Employer (ALE), if you’re a small company that offered an ICHRA last year, and what ICHRA reporting requirements are under Sections 6056 and 6055.
One of the most valuable aspects of our ICHRA administration software is the support it provides around employee communication. To make an ICHRA successful, employees need to understand the changes that are coming, what they can expect, how they can shop for health insurance and make big decisions regarding their coverage, and where they can go for help. Our team does all of this and more. From custom templates to helpful emails to ongoing support, Take Command’s ICHRA administration platform has all of the bases covered when it comes to employee communication.
The best ICHRA administration software makes the ICHRA solution streamlined and simple for employers and employees. While the obvious things like reporting and compliance are important, it’s hands-on employee enrollment, dedicated customer support, and a clear emphasis on the user experience that will set apart the best ICHRA administrators from the rest. Our take? Compare Take Command to the competition, to see the difference for yourself.
If a traditional group plan is being replaced by an ICHRA, it’s important to make the transition as smooth and easy as possible for your employees. Give them the resources they need for them to choose their own plan stress-free. Our data-driven platform can help your employees search for plans based on their needs, their doctors and their prescriptions.
Whether you’re the plan administrator on staff or a benefits consultant helping a client, an ICHRA administration tool should make it easy to manage the ICHRA, track reimbursements, and comply with all reporting requirements.

Our platform makes reimbursing your employees simple and easy. It will save you time and money, and provide you peace of mind.

If you’re a large employer (ALE), you can also upload a census and we will run a free affordability analysis for you to ensure that you remain compliant. (These can change year to year, by the way.)
An ICHRA plan can be set up in minutes and can go into effect at a date chosen by the employer. If employees already have individual health insurance, this can be immediate. If they will need to shop for a new plan, those new plans will go into effect on the first of the following month.
ICHRAs can replace a traditional group plan or be used in addition, where one class of employees stays on a group plan and another class could have an ICHRA. A class cannot be offered both. Learn more about ICHRAs in our ICHRA Guide.
WIth privacy issues and HIPAA, we don’t recommend administering ICHRAs in-house. Our post on ICHRA rules walks through more details.
QSEHRAs are types of HRAs that are designed specifically for small companies. If you have less than 50 employees, it does have more flexibility in terms of plans that can be reimbursed but have an annual limit.
An ICHRA is a type of health reimbursement arrangement.
Call us biased, but we think our Take Command ICHRA Administration tool is the way to go! Is your company or client going to be a part of this exciting change? Chat with our team with any questions you may have about these new, tax-friendly benefits.
