At Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County, they have a mission as big as their name: to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. To work toward that mission every day, they rely on a high - performance team with a passion for putting in the hard work for the benefit of local youth in their community outside of Chicago.
While they hadn’t historically offered health benefits due to cost, Leslie Blake, their executive director, knew it was imperative to offer staff benefits for recruitment, retention, and to simply take care of their dedicated team. In exploring the options, Blake came across a new alternative called Qualified Small Employer HRAs (QSEHRA).
Concerned with what implementation would look like and the ongoing workload on an already very busy staff, BBBSMC weighed their options of administrators and looked for the one that would give them the most support with the most experience. Take Command checked all the boxes.
They set up for their QSEHRA along with the ongoing management was “surprisingly simple.” Blake actually wasn’t prepared for how simple it would be—a refreshing surprise! The executive director and office manager manage the QSEHRA together. All they have to do is receive automated reports each week and then submit for payroll.
With 13 employees enrolled, the employee response has been excellent. In fact, the utilization rate for this year so far is 93%. Each employee with an enrollment expert at Take Command and was able to easily choose a plan that worked best for their family. Having the flexibility of choice, employees enjoy assessing their own needs and making their own decision, with the help of enrollment experts at Take Command. For many, QSEHRA has helped those who are on a spouse’s or parent’s plan and they can still reap the financial benefits through reimbursements—something a group plan simply would never do. Overwhelmingly, the employees say that their QSEHRA is “incredibly easy” to manage.
As the only non-profit in their area offering this model of health benefits, BBBSMC stands out among its competitors in the non-profit world with personalized health benefits that are affordable for both the non-profit employees and the non-profit itself.
